Sports medicine is an area of expertise that truly focuses on and increases the ability of athletes, treating and preventing injuries, and helping athletes both young and old to achieve their optimum physical wellness on the field. Our orthopedic specialists provide the foundation for athletes to gain the knowledge of what's happening with their physical health and how to avoid further injury as they participate in the sports they love.
Memorial Hospital of Converse County provides patient centered care and our providers and support staff get to know and care for athletes from every sport in order to tend to their concerns and needs. We work with them closely to help them be further in tune with their bodies so they have the foreknowledge of how and when to address injuries proactively to keep them from lingering.
No matter your sport, football to basketball, hockey to track and field our providers want to assist you to meet your optimum physical wellness and focus on your overall health.
Physical therapy is always a big part of any recovery plan and our partnership with Big County Rehabilitation makes therapy following any procedure very convenient. Therapists work on the patient recovery floor or from their offices conveniently located adjacent to the Orthopedic & Sports Medicine group at Memorial Hospital. Individualized therapy plans are built through collaborative discussions between the surgeon and therapist to ensure patients receive the most timely and effective therapy available.

The number of students participating yearly in school led athletics has grown dramatically in the last 25 years. And of those athletes we get a sense that injury is on the rise, mainly due to athletics being far more competitive at the high school level and below. It's no secret that as students seek to excel at a specific sport we are likely to see more injuries.
We understand also the care, concern and worry that accompanies parenting such a student! Rest assured we put your child's health first and foremost in our treatment plans. We want to see them achieve not only their personal physical wellness but also see that wellness go long term and last through their lives. We want to see their injuries heal and help them prevent further injuries as they compete.
We view working with parents and students as a long lasting partnership where we all are working towards a singular goal: the long term physical health of the student. No question, concern or worry is ever unwelcome as we want to insure we are addressing all of the cares of the patient and their caregivers. We're all in this together and we feel along with you a deep sense of pride in watching these athletes go on to greater successes!
